About

In Frankfurt writing notes about the frankfurter I have just eaten.

This blog started when I moved to Kingston for residency. My goal in Kingston was to eat at every restaurant in Kingston over 3 years. I didn’t even come close… but I did get to eat a lot. I met some awesome restaurateurs and the blog became a bit bigger than I thought it would! I wrote for thekingstonist for a while and my blog was featured in Kingston Life (post here). How cool is that!

Now I am back in Calgary completing a fellowship. I love everything about food, particularly its taste. My two year mission: to become a subspecialist while eating as much food as humanly possible. This contrasts to a story I heard about an anesthesia resident who lived for 5 years off of patient food and free lunches, never paying a dime. That is his legend. Not something that I would do.

I like all kinds of food but chicken wings and Indian are some of my favs. I am also searching for the perfect espresso while trying to remain not addicted to coffee.

My personal food-eating peeves:

1) people who order their steaks medium-well to well-done

2) people who go out for dinner with friends and all order the same dish

3) people who waste meat

Listen to my story. This may be our last chance.

  1. I just relocated to Kingston from Toronto this Fall (for Law). I’m glad to find another foodie in my midst. So I’m not the only one who takes photos of every thing I eat.

    Cheers!

  2. Hey Jazz, we need more Kingston food photos! When will your blog be up? I am doing by best right now to avoid eating at the same place twice… and so far I’ve been fairly successful.

  3. I’ve been slow on blogging…but have been uploading all my photos to Facebook. “Jazz~y Food Porn” I believe I made the albums public, not my profile. Have you tried White Mountain ice cream, Pilot House fish and chips, and Chez Piggy? I have to say I’ve had ALOT of misses too…

  4. Next week I’ll be hitting up the charcuterie @ Luke’s …

  5. I love your blog – informative and entertaining. Keep up the great work!

  6. Russ, I’ve been enjoying your writing and food porn for some time now, specifically the Kingston-centric stuff. Totally agree with you on Coffeeco and the Iron Duke, two of my personal faves at the moment. I Would love to chat with you via Email sometime. Please drop me a line.

    • Thanks for the comment Harvey. Was reading the kingstonist and we really share a lot of similar opinions on Kingston sushi in particular (Ta-ke, yech!!!). My usual sushi restos are Akira and Sima. Recently tried Jina sushi and Izumo sushi. Reviews are pending.

I am going to add your website to my blog-roll. Lots of good articles in there!

  7. Russ, thank you very much for adding Kingstonist to your blog roll. Again, I would be really interested in talking to you via Email. Without getting into the details, I am wondering if you would be interested in allowing your content to be published via Kingstonist. Please get back to me with your thoughts. I think it would be a great opportunity, win win for us both.

  8. Wow, I was so surprised to find another Calgarian foodie in Kingston, with a blog no less! I don’t have a blog, but I greatly appreciate that I can find restaurant reviews for both cities in one place! The delicious pictures aren’t helping my appetite either…

    • Jazzygurl… we are waiting for your blog and food porn. It is easy to do! I am leaving Kingston in several months so someone needs to take up the torch!

  9. I am a regular writer with the magazine Kingston Life (www.kingstonlife.ca) and am working on an article on local bloggers for the magazine’s online edition. I would like to do short profiles of three different Kingston bloggers and was hoping that you could be one of them. The telephone interview would take about 5-10 minutes and we would talk about your website and blog, what you write about, where you find your inspiration/subject matter, why you do it, who you hope your audience is, etc. It would be great coverage for your blog.

If you are interested, I would need to do the phone interview in the next few days. Please let me know.
    Many thanks!

  10. Russ,
I’m proud to tell you my daughter made the raviolis you ate at Matt’s in the Market while you were in Seattle. She is one fabulous cook and I am so pleased to know that you appreciate her talent as much as we do. Wish you could have been with us last week when we savoured her “butternut squash cappelletti”. Yum!

  11. what a creepy sausage in your photo.
p.s. you must be a urologist.

  12. From Calgary, and in Kingston as Well!! Keep posting please, this is good info for a food lover like me!!

    • Unfortunately, I am in Calgary now and I haven’t been in Kingston for the last 6 months! I can’t post any more about Kingston but I am planning on starting up in Calgary again soon!

  13. Start making some new posts please! Food trucks maybe???

    • Hey Jeff,

I’m working on it. I have so many photos to put up… and a new camera to boot. I’ll try to get some stuff updated for the new year!

  14. I actually stumbled on your blog while trying to compare Korean BBQ places and I’m glad I did. I’m always looking for tasty places in Calgary, but I’m not an experimenter! Thank you!! (^o^)

  15. Sorry but where are the reviews on Kingston Restaurants? I’m guessing it was some time ago but do you still have them on your blog?

  16. Hey,

    Great Blog!

Just happen to stumble across it but if you’ve got a moment – shoot me an email I’d like to chat.

    -Andrew

  17. This remains the best blog re: food in the kingston region. You’re a skilled writer Russ, and you are missed.

  18. Hi,
I stumbled onto your blog while researching for restaurants to eat at while I’m at Kingston. I will be going there for a Day Trip next Saturday from Ottawa and was wondering if you have any places to recommend (other than restaurants). Would love to hear from you! Great blog btw :>
