just a heads up I would be a bit embarrassed ordering tuna these days -- extremely over fished and contaminated with heavy metals such as mercury (toro "bluefin" is the best example of both problems)

A January 2008 investigation conducted by the New York Times found potentially dangerous levels of mercury in certain varieties of sushi tuna, reporting levels "so high that the Food and Drug Administration could take legal action to remove the fish from the market." Due to their high position in the food chain and the subsequent accumulation of heavy metals from their diet, mercury levels can be high in larger species such as bluefin and albacore.

That said, zen 8 understands the sushi taste preferences of corporate calgarians in general (vs aficionados) and as such is a success

I think you've mixed up between Akira and Sima Sush. I am a regular customer at Akira.I probably visit the restaurant at least once a week. So far, I have NEVER EVER seen them serve cooked white tuna. Also I've never had any issues with the freshness or the quality of the fish they serve. Today, I tried Sima Sushi for the first time... They served seared white tuna and fish that was not cut properly. The fish wasn't fresh at all and it was disappointing. Trust me... I am Japanese and I know how proper sushi and sashimi should look and taste like.

Great review!
I'll have to give it a shot next time I'm in Kingston. The last place I had sushi was at Asha and I received terrible service - the worst. I waited almost 40 minutes for my food, and once it arrived I didn't see my server again; I had an empty drink, empty plate, and I was trying to get more food since it was 'all you can eat' but to no avail. I walked out after about two hours of waiting and was never given the last course of my meal.

I came across your blog while looking for cupcake places in Montreal.

I'd just like to suggest breakfast at La Petite Marche on St-Denis Street if you're ever in Montreal again.

Also, Schwartz is good, but I actually prefer the smoked meat sandwiches at a place in Laval (on Cure-Labelle, just south of Dagenais). Ack! I can't remember the name of the place.

Bon appetit!
